Do You Really Love Yourself?

Do you think that loving yourself is selfish? Many of us have been taught that tending to our own needs first is wrong. The truth is that learning to love yourself is not selfish, it is in fact the key to a free and happy life.

Do you want to discover how to cultivate a deep sense of love for yourself? Do you long to radiate confidence and security in your life? It is so easy to fall into the trap of self-doubt, procrastination and negativity. Once we start comparing ourselves to others we find it even harder to find self love.

Why is it Important to Develop Self Love?

Many people do not realize how linked the law of attraction and self love are. You know that everything is energy and vibration in this universe, so doesn’t it make sense that through love you will flow pure energy? When you feel good within you feel good about everything else too. Everything is a reflection of your perceptions, beliefs and vibrations.

It is not selfish to love yourself first, it is essential, and we’re not talking about arrogance or telling people how awesome you are! We’re talking about accepting yourself on a deep human level and treating yourself with respect.

When you love yourself you create self-confidence, self-worth and compassion. One of the biggest problems we all face in this age of Instagram and facebook is about validating ourselves through the approval of others. When we are constantly comparing our lives to other peoples or have worth tied up in their opinions of us, we are setting ourselves up for misery. The answer is to have that sense of self so cemented that nothing anyone can say or do can knock you from your knowledge of who you are and what you are worth. That deep place of self-love is the starting place for all miracles!

We’re going to show you some simple ways to incorporate self love into your life and grow your self esteem for a happy life.

When you learn how to love yourself, the law of attraction will suddenly seem to work to your benefit much more. That’s because when you fuel your desires with optimism (because you just 100% know that you are worthy!), you allow positive things to flow to you with much more ease.

How to Love Yourself: 15 Tips for Developing Self Love

1. Train Yourself Positive
Everyday write down 3 positive things about yourself. These can be anything from achievements in life to friendships you value or physical/ character traits you admire in yourself. The reason this helps is that it trains you to look for and appreciate the positive over the negative in your life. Imagine what it would feel like to praise instead of criticize yourself!

2. Take Yourself Somewhere New
Instead of waiting for the right moment or person to come along, why not just go to the movies or try a new restaurant on your own? When you can break through insecurities you have about doing these things solo, you deepen that connection to your true self. You discover the part of you that loves who you are unconditionally.

3. Travel
Setting off on a trip alone is a wonderful way to cultivate self love and get to know yourself. It’s even better if you also take in a new culture or unknown destination as you will be forced to strip down any preconceptions you may have about others and yourself. Throwing yourself into the unknown is brave and takes confidence, you will find out a lot about yourself on a deep level.

4. Journal
Writing is a proven therapeutic way of releasing tension and negativity. It is amazing to process your feelings and emotions about yourself and your life through journaling. You can also go back and see how you worked through challenges and learned from any bad experiences.

5. Mirror Work
Every morning go to the mirror and look straight into your eyes and say to your reflection “I love you, just as you are and I want to be your friend.” You can choose your own words of course, but the effect of this is incredibly powerful. Some people may find it very challenging at first, but keep at it and feel your self esteem and confidence soar.

6. Create a Vision Board
When you don’t love yourself you don’t believe you can have the things you want in life. Creating a personal vision board of everything you dream of is a wonderful way to get excited about your future. Why not include images of things you already have that you love and are proud of? This can help you to identify with your vision and not see it as just an unattainable dream.

7. Meditate Every Day
Meditating on a regular basis is like food for the mind and soul. We all know it by now, but how many of us actually can say we do it enough? When you get into a healthy practice of calming your mind you start to feel who you really are on a deep level and how you connect with everything else in the world.

8. Listen to Your Gut
Another benefit of meditation is being able to recognize your instincts for what they are and listening to them. When you develop the ability to trust your own intuition, you foster self love. Knowing how to trust your gut is to stand in your own power and own it.

9. Regular Self Care
Self love is much more than getting a haircut and a mani-pedi, however taking the time to respect and honour your physical body with loving gestures that make you feel good is highly recommended. Confidence and beauty do start within, but sometimes looking good can help you feel better on the inside when you are struggling with self-esteem.

10. List Your Accomplishments

Don’t be too shy to give yourself a little credit where credit is due. Write a list of everything you are proud of, whether it’s an educational or work achievement or simply learning a new recipe or deciding to master a yoga position. Big and small accomplishments are all worthy of praise, no matter what they are.

11. Practice Forgiveness
Forgiveness is vital to your mental and emotional health. Holding onto resentment towards others only hurts you in the long run. Equally, identify where you beat up on yourself for choices you regret or whatever toxic thoughts you have about your past, and then decide to let them go. Tell yourself you are just another human on a journey of life and love yourself through all your mistakes.

12. Don’t be Afraid to Say No
A lot of stress can be avoided when you realize it’s ok to say no sometimes. If you don’t feel like going out or feel overwhelmed, listen to that and take it as a sign to spend some time alone getting grounded again. You cannot please everybody and you need to make sure you are being true to yourself first.

13. Leave Your Comfort Zone
On the flip side of the above point, say yes occasionally when you normally say no. You can tell (if you’re listening to your gut) whether your ‘no’s’ are coming from a place of fear or a genuine desire not to do something. Try saying yes to something out of the ordinary for you and see how it feels to challenge yourself in new ways.

14. List Positive Traits in all Your Friends
This is a fun one to do in a couple or with a friend. Sit down together for 5 minutes and list the strong qualities and positive aspects that you each identify in the other. This can be an amazing way to bond in relationships and also has the uplifting effect of raising your own self esteem.

15. Be Childlike

Find a photo of yourself as a child and really study it. Try to remember what that little person dreamed of, what they believed and wished for. See the innocence and light in your young eyes and find that place in you now, that place of purity and playfulness. Self love never went away it just got pushed aside. When you remember your childlike innocence, worries seem to fade away.

You might find some of these suggestions scary at first, perhaps you shy away from some of our tips because they threaten your normal way of thinking and behaving. The bottomline is you will feel so much happier and more positive in your life if you work on developing love for yourself.

Once you master some of the ways to create self love you will realize how crucial it is to own who you are and shine your authentic light in the world.

Bonus Tip – Try using love to create the things you desire. For example, tell yourself that you are going to love yourself into the best version of you. You want a bigger house? A soul mate? A new job? A dream vacation? Love them all into existence. You can draw them, write about them, dream about them, whatever you choose, just as long as when you think of them you feel the vibration of love not lack. Love the life you desire into existence with your unfailing belief in your own magnificence.

8 Easy Money-Saving Tips

This post may contain affiliate links.  Please read the disclaimer for more information.

The most important money-saving tip is to have the right mindset. Saving money involves discipline and goal-setting skills, so get ready.

In order to build a nest egg, you need to change your relationship with money.

Decide what it is that you are saving for and move forward with a plan.

It may take some time to get use to these adjustments, but the results will be well worth it.

Live Within Your Means

Set a budget – Budgeting is by far a rule of thumb when it comes to saving money.  This doesn’t have to be a complex project.

Make a list of all your necessities with an amount next to them.  Be sure to create a breakdown of these expenses and only spend what is listed.

Make sure that you prioritize your list and are spending only what is necessary to get through the week.  Any money that is leftover before the next paycheck can be put into your savings account.

According to, a monthly rent or house payment amount should be no more than 30% of your yearly income.

This means that a household that makes $100,000 should spend no more than $2500 per month.

Avoid high car payments – If you need a car and you are trying to save money, then the best option would be to pay cash, according to Dave Ramsey, a financial expert, radio host, and author.

According to Mr. Ramsey, if it isn’t possible to pay cash for a new car then wait until you can.

His solution: purchase a cheaper car with cash for around $2000.  Use this car to get around as you save the money you would have spent on a car note.  Then, use the money saved to purchase the new car.

His logic is not only intelligent but practical. Financing a car, which loses full value once you drive it off the lot, doesn’t make good financial sense.

Don’t Fall Victim to Sales Offers

We see them all the time in media, in our email boxes, and as we drive down the street.  Endless products from retailers that are being offered on sale.

“Buy One Get One Free”  “Buy Now and Get Free Shipping”

Sales offers are designed to get you to spend money.  Some ads are so good that they can have you feeling as if can’t live without their product.

The truth is, if you are looking to save money, then you need to stop spending money, period.

Now is the time to tighten up on extra expenditures and buckle down to the necessities.

This simply means, if it is a want and not necessarily a need, you probably don’t really need it in the first place.

Save Automatically

Set up to have a certain amount of money transferred into a savings account every paycheck or on a monthly basis.

Most banks usually offer automatic transfer options. You would just need to choose an amount and how often you would like the funds to be transferred.

Another way to set up automatic transfer is through your job.  Just check with your HR department on how to set up automatic deposits from your paycheck into the account or accounts of your choice.

Reduce Monthly Expenses

There are certain utilities that are a necessity such as water, electricity, and gas.  However, if you are paying for things like a cable subscription, then now is a good time to cancel.

Over a 12-month span, a monthly cable bill of $100 will cost you $1200 a year.

Actually, much of what is being offered on cable can be found with cheaper options such as internet TV and other TV Apps that are more affordable and at a fraction of the cost.

Also, make sure that you are not paying for extra features on other monthly bills or subscriptions that you simply don’t need.  If so, have those bills adjusted as deleted as well.

Cut Back On Travel Expenses

Going on vacation, can blow through a budget, quickly.  The reason: cost of travel, food, hotels and fun.

But this is not only applicable to out of town travel.

Save trips to the other side of town, for a specific day.  For example, if your dry cleaners and credit union are on the other side of town, then pick one day to make the trip.  This will help you save time and money.

The bottom line – avoid traveling on credit cards if it isn’t necessary. Instead, save trips for special occasions and put a savings plan in place for those expenses so that you don’t have to pay for them later.

Don’t Eat Out

Research has found that people who purchase groceries and prepare their own meals can save hundreds per year on food expenses.

Pack a lunch daily for work instead of eating out every day.  Having your meals prepared is essential when it comes to saving money.

Make eating out a special treat by doing it only on occasion or by picking a special day out of the month.

Stop Using Credit Cards

If it is necessary to use a credit card, then do so and then pay it in full each month.

Don’t fall into a cycle of making minimum payments as it will just keep you in debt to the credit card company with interest.

To avoid this cycle, pay for things in cash or from your debit card when possible.

Get A Side Hustle

Getting a side hustle is a great way to build funds without sacrificing your normal paycheck.  Money strategists suggest working a side job to boost your savings goals in a timely manner.

This plan of action can be used for many of your savings goals; however, it is often implemented for big goals such as paying off student loans, depleting credit card debt, or home improvement projects.

10 Steps To Building More Confidence

“Confident people do not concentrate on their weaknesses; they develop and maximize their strengths.” – Joyce Meyer

Building confidence can be easily attainable when you have the proper tools.

After all, having self confidence is vital in gaining access to who we are truly meant to be.

But it is understood that not everyone truly feels confident.

Now, there are various reasons why we may lack having more self esteem.  Each one of us has our own story as to how we’ve arrived in a position of not owning our confidence and at some point, we’d like to find the road map to having more.

These confidence boosting activities are sure to help enhance your life and help you build more confidence.

The Confident Woman Devotional: 365 Daily Inspirations By Joyce Meyer

1. Fly Solo

The thing that you want to achieve may not include your best friend or someone else that you know.

Know that you can go after your desires alone and that you don’t need other people to do them with you.

Try doing an activity that you’ve never done alone such as taking in a movie or going out to dinner.

These confidence boosting activities are sure to help enhance your life and help you build more confidence.

2. Explore New Things

Being closed minded will keep you in the same circles that you been twirling in.  And how can you be better if you are not willing to learn something new?

Explore things that you know little about and be open to gaining a better understanding of them.  Trying a new cuisine or going to a baseball game when you’ve never been is a great way to grow.

Being open can be a great steppingstone into bigger and better obstacles when they arise.

3. Don’t Be Defined by Others

Having confidence has a lot do with being exactly who you are without needing a co signature from anyone else.

In other words, waiting on someone else’s approval of your actions in order to feel more confident in what you are doing.

Instead, take control of your own journey.

Giving others this type of power over you can lead you down a road that you never even wished to travel.

4. Care Less of What People Think of You

The truth is, you can do everything that you think others will like and still be criticized.

People are going to think and say what they will about you, regardless.

The important takeaway here is to not allow the opinions of others sway your decisions or lower your self-esteem.

Feeling concerned about what others may think does nothing positive in your life and is time and energy well wasted.

So, don’t sweat it and stand firm in who you are.

5. Be Open to Criticism

Do you hate to be criticized?

A common reaction to criticism is to become defensive and closed minded.  You may even become argumentative if you’re being told that you were wrong in a certain situation.

It’s usually not a good feeling and can cause friction in your relationship with the person who is relaying this message.

However, being open to criticism and admitting to not making the best choices is a mature move in expanding self-confidence.

Besides, outside judgement gives you the opportunity to look at yourself from a different point of view.

Part of being confident is being able to admit where your weaknesses are and be willing to learn from your mistakes.

6. Be Transparent

Now, this doesn’t mean that you need to share every little thing about yourself.  But be authentic about your successes as well as your failures.

Shedding light on these aspects of yourself helps build character and displays confidence in being who you truly are.

No one is perfect and painting a perfect picture of who you are to others is counterproductive and inauthentic.

Confidence is extremely evident in people who are real with themselves and those around them.

7. Learn Something New

Knowledge is power and mind stimulation is an instant confidence booster.

Find time every day to learn new skills.

Doing this is easily attainable and can be done during your daily routine. An example of this might be to trade TV time for reading a book or watching a self-help video online.

Instead of listening to music, tune in to a podcast about wealth building as you take your daily walk.

Invest in self-improvement and do it daily to expand your knowledge about things that are going to take you to a higher level in your life.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t – you’re right.” – Henry Ford

8. Fail Successfully

But Failing successfully means to go after what you want and if it doesn’t work the first time, try it again until it does.

You may need to change your strategy and make some minor adjustments, but you don’t give up.

In fact, don’t ever give up.

Some of the most successful people in the world were not necessarily geniuses or extremely lucky.   They were just people who tried and tried until they were successful.

Be tenacious when it comes to your desires and go after them with a vengeance.

  9. Affirm It

You don’t have to wait for your boss to tell you that you did a great job.  If you know you’ve put your all into a project or task, feel good about it anyway.

Confidence is a mindset.  If you tell yourself that you are confident and that you are a winner, you will begin to feel that way.

Affirmations are a wonderful tool that you can use anytime and anywhere to help put you in the right frame of mind.

It may feel silly at first but looking in the mirror and telling yourself how beautiful, wonderful, and confident you are is the idea here.

Do this every single day to help position your mind.

10. Live In The Present

There is a lot to be said about living in the present and letting go of the past.  But the truth is, our past no longer exists.

It can only exist if we choose to allow it to exist.

When we hold on and blame our current situation and experiences on our past, we live and remain there.

This means that we don’t grow, and possibly miss out on things that we should be enjoying right now.

So, decide that you are no longer a victim of your past and move on.

Letting go of grudges may be easier said than done, but it can be done.

Forgiving yourself and others for past mistakes is a healing process.

Remember, you deserve to be healed and live a happy and abundant life so take the necessary steps to enjoying the present.

Clean Eating Made Easy

This post may contain affiliate links.  Please read the disclaimer for more information.

Is it hard for you to follow a clean eating plan?

If you have developed a habit of unhealthy eating, then join the club.  Eating foods that feed our emotions, rather than foods that encourage a healthy body, is quite common.

This is the very reason that we should follow a clean eating plan.

And, this doesn’t mean that we should never indulge in something that isn’t so healthy.

But, if we clean up our eating habits and change our mindsets to crave foods that offer nutritional value, then it can become much easier and even simple to live a healthier lifestyle.

So, let’s first define what clean eating really is.  To eat clean is eat a diet that is rich in foods that provides the body with the highest nutritional value.

Whole foods, such as whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables are going to be the best choices when comes to feeding our bodies.

This is because these foods are in their whole state and have not gone through any processing.  When eaten, these foods provide great nutritional value to the body that encourages health and energy to the body’s organs.

Why We’re Eating Wrong in The First Place

Perhaps we’ve developed unhealthy eating habits because of lifestyle and convenience.  Grabbing a meal on-the-go seems like a great idea when you’re short on time.

But as you may know, fast foods are not the best choice when it comes to maintaining a healthy diet.

The key here is to change our definition of fast foods.  It usually takes only minutes to order and receive a full meal from a fast food restaurant.

But the better alternative is eating foods that are also fast and satisfying such as raw fruits, vegetables and nuts.

It only takes minutes to whip up a healthy salad and have all the components of a well-balanced meal.

There is no denying that foods like French fries, cookies, and pizza are delicious in taste.

But when we follow a diet that is high in processed foods like this, we deprive our bodies of what it needs to be healthy.

Instead, we feed it things that it doesn’t need at all.

According to Dr. Vilma Andari MS, of the American Heart Association, fast foods and snack foods tend to be low in nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants.

Furthermore, these foods are highly processed and contain large amounts of sugar and sodium which are known to be stored as fat.

When this happens, it contributes to raised cholesterol levels and encourages disease in the body.

So, how do we eat clean and where do we start?

1. Drink Water

Research suggests that drinking a glass of water before eating will cause you to eat less. Essentially, staying hydrated and drinking water will help the body to process foods properly.

Water helps move foods through the system and encourages proper elimination.

You should also avoid filling up on soda and sugary drinks that are full of empty calories and offer little to no nutritional value.

Try infused water instead.  If you feel like you still need a little fizz, go with a sparkling water for an extra boost.

2. Pace Yourself

Bad habits can be hard to break.  Chances are that you’ve been eating unhealthy foods for quite some time and changing your diet may feel intimidating.

Just keep in mind that you don’t have to be in a rush when it comes to transitioning to a clean diet.

Making too many changes all at once may become overwhelming and tempt you back to old eating habits.

Instead, try replacing an unhealthy item with a clean item at each meal. Do this a couple of days and then switch out another item until you’ve changed the diet completely.

Remember, this is a lifestyle change so take your time.

3. Color Your Plate

A clean meal should be vibrant with fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Make sure to add fruits and or vegetables to every meal and include seeds, nuts and legumes as toppings and snacks.

If you are a meat eater, then it is best to choose organic or grass fed. But, you should also note that beans and legumes are also a great source of protein.

4. Readjust Your Focus

There’s nothing worse than craving something that you really want to eat and not being able to have it.

Not satisfying these urges may tend to make you want it even more than ever.

So instead of focusing on what you can’t have, try focusing on what you can have to help make the shift.

Now, this may not be so easy at first.  But eating a healthier diet will encourage you to crave healthier food choices.

Eliminating processed foods while replacing them with whole nutrient enriched foods will help you feel full while supplying you with more energy throughout the day.

So, shift your focus and try out different foods that are not only good for you, but taste good to you.

5. Reduce Your Sugar and Sodium Intake

There is sugar and sodium in almost everything that we eat.  It’s used so much, that you almost need to stay away from anything in a box or a bottle just to avoid it in large amounts.

The following are the recommended amounts as suggest by the American Heart Association.

For optimal heart health, the American Heart Association recommends you consume:

  • No more than 1,500 milligrams of sodium per day.
  • No more than 6 teaspoons or 100 calories of sugar a day for women.

Following these guidelines is a great way to monitor your sugar and sodium intake daily.

6. Check Labels

We know that eating whole foods are going to be the best choice when it comes to diet.

It is strongly suggested to stick to these types of foods if you are following a clean eating diet.

However, checking the nutritional value on items is extremely important when consuming foods that have been minimally processed.

A few things to note are going to be the daily value in nutrients per serving. The Food and Drug Administration suggests less than 100% of the daily value in sodium, cholesterol, sugars, trans fat, and saturated fat.

Follow the following guidelines to help in your food choices.

7. Eat Primarily for Substance

The foods that we consume play a huge role in our overall wellbeing.   If you’re not going completely cold turkey on unhealthy foods altogether, then it may not be so bad to have an occasional food that is not so healthy.

However, most of your meals really should be for substance and nutrition

Foods that are going to feed the body, build the immune system and give it energy should be your primary focus when it comes to diet.

JJ Smith, a nutritionist and author of Lose Weight Without Dieting Or Working Out, suggests having no more than 1-2 cheat meals per week.

Eating for substance and not pleasure is an important component to staying on track.

8. Prepare Your Own Meals

You may make healthy choices when you are out to dinner or eating meals away from home.

But the only way that you can be sure of how your food has been prepared, is if you have cooked it yourself.

Your best choice is going to be prepare your own meals.

Get into the habit of meal prep and prepackaging your foods for easy access.

Also, if you know that you’re going to be out for a while, pack an insulated lunch bag full of healthy snacks so that you have what you need when you are away from home.

Being proactive is going to be one of your best tools when it comes to transitioning to a healthier diet.

That being said, let’s now explore some things that may help you look and feel younger.

Relax Your Mind

Take time out for you during the day.  You may feel like you’re off to the races once that alarm clock sounds in the morning. This is because it’s natural to get caught up in the monotony of life.

But unfortunately, many of us neglect to take care of our minds.

A mind that is constantly busy causes tension and tiredness in the body.

Try setting the alarm 30 minutes earlier than your normal time. Go to a quiet area and read a good book or journal your thoughts.

Doing this can help you awaken with a positive outlook on the day.

Or better yet, step out on to the patio for a little fresh air when you have some down time.  This is very beneficial and it helps to relax and re energize.

I know you’ve heard it before, but do you really take heed to the message?  Following a healthy diet has so many benefits to feeling and looking younger.

Are you eating fruits and vegetables?

If you can’t remember, then you probably need to change something in your diet.

Look Younger With This Face Massage Technique

The Art of touch is one of the best forms of natural healing available.   In fact, Dr Oz once stated that scientific research  and clinical research continues to support health benefits of massage therapy.

Shiatsu Face Massage

Shiatsu, meaning “finger pressure”, is a Japanese massage technique that is like acupuncture because it helps with freeing up the energy flow based on different pressure points in the body.

This form of massage is said to assist with toning the muscles, improved circulation and revitalization.

If you think about it, years and years of facial movement along with the aging process really don’t work in favor of our looks over time.

Muscles become lazy and start to sag as the skin matures. That is the main reason that wrinkles and creasing in the skin are often noticed around the eye and mouth area when this happens.

Shiatsu facial massage is a wonderful and natural way to look younger.

When shiatsu is performed on the face, it can help to reduce the appearance of frown lines,  marionette lines and crow’s feet.

Facial muscles become tense over time, so it may be necessary to apply stronger pressure during this face massage because of the need to reset those muscles and smooth the face.

When massage techniques are applied to the body, toxins are released, circulation is increased and overall relaxation is achieved.

By applying these same techniques to the face, we gain facial toning, smoother skin and firmness, and the release of tension.

That is the reason why the face radiates with its own natural glow after a massage.

According to a nation-wide analysis of grocery store purchases, over 60 percent of the food purchased were highly processed.

Highly processed foods tend to be high in sugar, fat and sodium which is bad for the body.

These days, it is so convenient to do the wrong things for our health because of time constraints and quick fixes.

It can feel as if we just don’t have the time to eat as healthy as we should, and no wonder….

But, eating this way has very negative effects on our bodies over time, including disease and weight gain.

So…. What can you do to change that?

Instead of buying fast foods and other processed foods such as pasta, breads and instant meals, wander over to the produce section of the grocery store for fresh fruits and vegetables on your next visit.

But if you are a meat eater, then fresh natural/hormone free eggs, chicken, fish and turkey are also high in protein and  are great whole food choices.

Here is how you can minimize your processed food intake and maximize healthier whole food choices.

Reprogram your mind

Decide that you are going to eat better and follow through.

This means stocking your refrigerator and cabinets with healthy foods so that they are available to you.

Stop Dragging Through Life and Live on Purpose

This post may contain affiliate links.  Please read the disclaimer for more information.

Think about your current life right now. I mean really evaluate the people you interact with, the home in which you live and so on.

Now, there are some of us who are happy with what we have and where we’re going in life. We might even be living a life of passion and fulfillment.  But for many of us, this just isn’t the case.

We sometimes blame our situations on circumstance.

Many of us hold on to things from our past and use them as an excuse not to do better in life. We give up on wanting more than we have.

And for many, living small and being content with whatever life throws at us has become a common epidemic.

Sure, we may have happy moments in life, but we settle into what we feel that we deserve. We’ve been conditioned not to think big because we feel as if we don’t deserve it.

Others may wish for more, but feel that a better life just isn’t in the cards for them.

We may even grow up and do our best to try to fulfill every wish that others may have had for us.  Maybe we were brainwashed into pursuing what we were told we should pursue based on someone else’s opinion.

But, fulfilling someone else’s dreams can have you living a life of regret and frustration, rather than fulfillment and aspiration.

Don’t Let Someone Else’s Opinion of You Become Your Reality.  – Les Brown

You may have had dreams to do something amazing in your life but never pursued it.

Not because you didn’t want to, but because someone managed to talk you out of it or convinced you that you need to do something else.

They may have mentioned that you can’t do it or that it’s too farfetched.

So just like that, you’ve settled in to not achieving your goals.

Afterall, living passionately and pursuing what life has to offer doesn’t work for people like you, right? Wrong.

The beautiful thing about having a dream is that you own that dream. It comes from within, and no one has the same passion as you do about it because it is yours.

When we set goals to achieve our dreams, we are then able to fulfill our desires.

Set Your Focus

So, what’s stopping you from reaching for the stars?

Maybe you’ve never really taken serious thought about what it is that you want out of life.

Having a lack of focus and not really knowing what your real passions are can leave you in disarray.

If you feel as if nothing seems to make sense or if your life is just a big ball of frustration, then you are not alone.

This happens for many of us and can be highly attributed to negative beliefs and limitations.

Unfortunately, many people live their whole lives just bumping around and landing on whatever falls in their laps.  They may be living according to social status or even competition.

And unfortunately, having the education, wealth and all the things that society defines as being successful, doesn’t mean that you are living your purpose either.

What is it to have this level of success and live in misery or feel as if you are lost?

What we must note is that although our loved ones and friends may mean well with their advice, they shouldn’t be given the power to define who we should become.

They don’t know what we are capable of achieving; what we should and shouldn’t be doing with our lives.

Sadly, you can live your whole life looking as if you have the whole world in your hands and still feel empty inside.

I once heard of a guy who lived in competition of someone he grew up with. He followed the same exact life that the other guy followed and was successful at achieving similar things.

But he was miserable and constantly complained of how much life sucked.

Why?  Because he wasn’t living for himself, he was living in comparison to someone else.

To think that your purpose means that you need to keep up with the Joneses or have more than the guy you went to high school with, is a huge misconception as well.

The reality, we all have our own paths to walk. What’s going on in someone else’s life has nothing to do with what should go on in yours.

If you were to die tomorrow, can you truly say that you’ve lived the life that you’ve desired?

If not, it’s time for change.

Find Your Passion

You may have heard before that our passion is usually something that you would do even if you didn’t get paid for it.

It’s in our dreams and fills our hearts with joy. We light up with just the thought of what we wish to achieve.

Now, take some time to step outside of your current thought pattern.  Think about what you are spending most of your time doing.

If it’s filled with mundane activity that has you feeling exhausted, then it may be time to find the thing that brings you energy and lifts your spirits.

You want to take your time with this.  You don’t have to know all the answers for achieving your passion or feel as if you need to hurry up and achieve it right away.

Once you recognize what it is that you would like to pursue, go for it.

Make the decision, do the research, take the course or whatever it is that will put you on your path to your purpose.

And you will find that doors start to open, and opportunities will align for you in a positive way.

You have the power to change, so embrace it.

Just as you’ve lived the way that you have been living, you can now embrace more happiness, confidence and self-fulfillment by pursuing your goals.

So stay the course and live on purpose.

Clutter: Why It May Be Draining You

You may have a lot on your plate, be extremely busy, and feel as though you are on a constant roller coaster ride in life.

There may be various reasons for these feelings, however, one thing you may want to make note of is your surroundings.

Spend a few moments to take inventory of your home and office space.

Take a picture if you need to and look at it later when you have some down time.  This will give you a different perspective.

Now, if you are organized, know where your most frequent items are located, and can honestly say that the area is neat and doesn’t need any attention, then kudos to you!

But, if you notice that you have documents stacked that you haven’t looked at in weeks or clothes piled up to the ceiling, then you may need to get a handle on this in order to better your life.

Disorganization and clutter can make you tired, frustrated, angry, and even late.

Dr. Robert London, a New York City psychiatrist, states that clutter leads to anxiety, despair, family stresses and embarrassment.

Furthermore, living in a space that is over filled and disorganized can be holding you back from living a life that you deserve.

7 Reasons to Declutter

  • You need to move or downsize
  • Feeling anxious or depressed
  • Desire a home makeover
  • Need to clean or paint but unable
  • Can’t find items that you need
  • Unable to have company over
  • You have too many items
  • Need mental clarity

The truth is, we can become so accustomed to our disorganized surroundings, that it becomes invisible to us.

It just seems to somehow mix in with everything else and overlooked as even causing a problem.

And this can go on for a long time.  Really, it’s kind of a silent issue that doesn’t always get handled in a timely manner.

If you are seeking more peace of mind, then getting your living and work space organized should be addressed.

Take Action

This is much easier said than done in many cases, but simply deciding to get things in order is a great step in the right direction.

Professional organizers all around suggest that you make decluttering a priority in your schedule.

A suggestion is to have garbage bags and boxes on hand so that you can separate the items that you want to keep, donate, and throw out.

If you don’t have a huge amount of clutter, then you may decide to spend a little time each day to get organized.

But, for larger amounts, you may want to recruit a team of people such as friends and family members, so that you can tackle a lot in a short amount of time.

For example, pick a Saturday morning for a couple of hours to throw out items that are no longer needed.

You can then separate the items that you want to keep and ones that you would like to donate to charity.

Clutter Free Maintenance

As we know, it’s easy to let things pile up and get out of hand. Let’s not let that happen again.

Now that everything has been put in its designated place, remember how good it looks and feels and do what you can to keep it that way.

Here are some new habits that you may want to adapt:

  • It sounds easy enough, but put things back where they belong as soon as you are done with them.  This usually doesn’t take very long and can save so much time in the long run.
  • Discard unwanted mail as soon as it comes and set mail in a designated area for when you are ready to go through it.
  • Make sure everyone in the house is on board with your efforts of keeping the house clean.
  • Wash dishes as you cook and make sure that dry dishes are put away.
  • Items that are not being used or are off season should be stored away until needed.
  • Before bed, do a walkthrough of the house or office and make sure that things are put away.

Doing these things everyday will help you keep your living space in good order and ready for the following day.

Where to Donate

There are many places that you may be able to donate your unwanted items.  In many cases, these items can be dropped off locally, or arranged for pickup by the organization.

Please see below for 3 of the top charities that you may be interested in donating to:

The Salvation Army – clothing and household items are donated to people in need.  Donations are also used to help raise money in emergency situations such as flood victim and provide needed items to homeless shelters.

Purple Heart – Donations of clothing and housewares are sold to help raise funds for Purple Heart’s mission to support veterans and their families throughout the nation.

St Vincent DePaul SocietyGently used clothing, furniture and household goods may be donated.  These items are used to stock St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores and are sold at affordable prices. The society also offers a furniture voucher program for people who are transitioning from homelessness, domestic violence victims and others who may be in need.

Are You Making The Best Use of Your Time?

For some of us, time seems to go by so quickly that we sit and wonder, where did the time go and whether or not we are making the best use of it.

Each person is unique and has to walk their own path and travel their own journey.

This is why it is important to do what motivates you and not live by the standards of others.

Here are some examples of how time can easily be wasted:

  • Doing what appeases others rather than yourself
  • Working a job that you hate
  • Taking on too many projects at the same time
  • Engaging in negative talk

Good use of your time, would be to complete your desired studies and transition to an occupation that will be more rewarding or spending time with family.

Now, if you find that you are making great use of the time that you’re spending on a daily basis then you may be right track.

But, there may be a need for restructuring if you feel as though there just aren’t enough hours in the day for you to do what needs to be done.

Beware of the time stealers that are listed below and evaluate whether you need restructuring.

Minimize Social Media Time

One major contributor to time wasted these days has to do with time spent on social media.  It has literally become societies new way of doodling.

Popping in and out of different social sites can be a fun way to unwind.  However, it is rarely productive and can be overly stimulating to the brain.

Try and keep social media to a minimum by choosing a designated time to use it, after that put the phone away so that you can complete other tasks that need your attention.

A great way to maximize your down time would be to get away for a few minutes by taking a stroll or making a list of things you would like to complete for the week.

Get Organized

If it takes you 20 minutes in the morning to find your car keys, then you are not alone.

Being disorganized and not putting things back in their proper place is a great way to lose unwarranted time.

Make it a priority to change this habit by organizing important items so that they are readily available to you.

Everything should be in its proper place so that it can easily be located when needed.  It should also be placed back in its designated spot when done.

Take the time to do this to help maximize your day.

Make Good Use of Travel Time

It’s common to listen to the radio during drive time, however, this is also a great time to listen to an audiobook.

If you need to catch up on studies, learn a new language or enjoy a good book, then listening to an audiobook during travel time is a great way to do it.

A great tip here is to try your local library for audiobooks.  Many of them offer a free app and will let you check out books from your mobile device.

Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination has been defined as an intentional delay of starting or completing a task.

But, putting things off until later or saying that you’ll get to it tomorrow just another way of throwing time away.

We tend to procrastinate when we don’t want to do something or seems overwhelming.

According to Dr. Alexandar Rozental, a clinical psychologist at the Karlinska Institute in Sweden, many people procrastinate because they become anxious about a project, fear failure, or feel that they can’t complete it well.

Those who lack confidence in completing tasks that are more challenging may find it easier to start with smaller tasks to help build confidence, according to Rozental.

Start making a conscious effort to start and finish what needs to be done so that you become efficient daily.

Learn to Say No

If you can fit something into your schedule that doesn’t pull you away from your priorities, then all the better.

But, saying yes to things that don’t help you in your goals can be a huge time waster.

It may please someone else for you to do what they would like, but it does nothing for what you may wish to achieve for the day.

Your time and schedule are a priority, so learn to say no when needed.

Don’t Take on Too Much

Doing too many things at the same time not only contributes to wasted time, it can leave you overwhelmed and stressed.

Prioritizing what needs to be done and possibly delegating certain things to someone else can help you find the time you need to do more productive things.

You may feel as though you want to get everything completed right away.  But, doing too much is a great way to get frustrated and not do it at all.

Instead, prioritize more pertinent things first and either save the rest for later in the week or hand it off to your spouse.

Turn off Notifications

Notifications are distracting and can be a huge time waster.

We tend to stop what we’re doing so we can see who just sent us an email or to check what just happened on twitter.

Often, these notifications are not urgent and can be looked at and answered later.

Instead, pick designated times to catch up on these things such as lunch time and right after winding down for the day.

With a few adjustments, you may find that you have more than enough time to do everything that you need.
