The Art of touch is one of the best forms of natural healing available.   In fact, Dr Oz once stated that scientific research  and clinical research continues to support health benefits of massage therapy.

When massage techniques are applied to the body, toxins are released, circulation is increased and overall relaxation is achieved.

By applying these same techniques to the face, we gain facial toning, smoother skin and firmness, and the release of tension.

That is the reason why the face radiates with its own natural glow after a massage.

If you think about it, years and years of facial movement along with the aging process really don’t work in favor of our looks over time.

Muscles become lazy and start to sag and the skin begins to crease and wrinkle. Developing wrinkles around the eyes and creases around the mouth becomes more common as the face matures.

The wonderful thing about facial massage is that it doesn’t cost much, its just a few dollars for moisturizer, and it can be done just about anywhere.

There are certain tools that you may purchase for facial massage, however, your hands are really all that you need to achieve better looking skin and a more youthful glow.

Shiatsu Face Massage

Shiatsu, meaning “finger pressure”, is a Japanese massage technique that is like acupuncture because it helps with freeing up the energy flow based on different pressure points in the body.

This form of massage is said to assist with toning the muscles, improved circulation and revitalization.  When shiatsu is performed on the face, it can help to reduce the appearance of frown lines,  marionette lines and crow’s feet.

Facial muscles become tense over time, so it may be necessary to apply stronger pressure during this face massage because of the need to reset those muscles and smooth the face.

Massage Techniques

Before you start your facial massages make sure that you wash your hands and cleanse your face.  Follow the cleansing process by applying a good moisturizer to the face and neck.

It is strongly suggested that you invest in a good facial moisturizer, if you don’t have one already.

Moisturizing your face protects it from dryness, keeps it soft and smooth and helps to prevent stretching of the skin while performing these exercises.

Remember to be gentle with your skin!

Relax Frown Lines

Make sure moisturizer has been applied.  Place the pads of your fingers firmly against the center of the forehead, applying light pressure.  Sweep upward towards the top of the head for 10 seconds.  Repeat if necessary.

Increase Circulation

Gently pat your face with your hands all over for approximately 10 seconds to increase blood flow to the face.

Release Tension

Take the middle fingers and gently press the temples of your face.  Now massage in a circular motion for approximately 10 seconds.

Follow that by spreading your fingers apart as you massage the head, starting with the hands being placed right above the ears as you massage the entire scalp.  Continue this massage for approximately 2 minutes.
