The Keto Diet, or the Ketogenic Diet, is a low carb diet that was actually created in the 1920’s for treating epilepsy. But lately, it seems to be one fastest growing diet crazes around.

Although the desire to lose weight may be good reason to follow the Ketogenic Diet, you will always want to consult a medical professional before beginning.

Understand that this diet is high in fat, moderate in protein and low in carbs.  So, it needs to be followed correctly to get the best results.

Keto is like some of the other low carb diets such as Atkins or Paleo. However, what differentiates this diet from some of the others is that it is more nontraditional due to the ratio of foods required to maintain optimum results.

It is important to remember that to be successful on the Keto Diet, you must change the way that you think about how you have eaten in the past.  So, you shouldn’t go into it without having a thorough understanding of what it takes to achieve success.

Make sure you are well informed about how the Keto Diet works and how it can affect your mind and body.

See this video on the benefits of following a Ketogenic Diet from clinical nutritionist and doctor of natural medicine,  Dr. Josh Axe.

When followed properly, your body will shift from burning carbohydrates for energy and begin to burn fat instead.

This process is called Ketosis which is the process of burning fat in the body instead of carbohydrates.

The increased amount of fat intake helps to reduce cravings and satisfy the appetite.

  1. Some Benefits of the Keto Diet

Lack of water can also cause the heart to beat rapidly or palpitate.  Blood circulation and volume is decreased when you are dehydrated.

Therefore, causing the heart to work harder in order to assist with moving the blood throughout the body.

Many of us are consumed with high amounts of toxins every day that come from our intake of prescription drugs, processed foods, viruses, as well as the environment. So, it is necessary to drink more water because it helps to flush out these unwanted contaminants.

Wrinkles the Skin

Eating large amounts of sugar can have some very harmful effects to the skin. According to Californian Dermatologist, Sonia Batra,  having a diet filled with sugary foods can lead to wrinkles, loss of collagen and sagging skin.

These skin issues, which are due to (AGEs) advanced glycation end products, are caused by having high amounts of protein and or fat combined with sugar in the bloodstream.

Increases Your Cravings

Have you ever eaten something sweet like a slice of cake and then immediately craved something else to sweeten your tooth?

That’s because consuming sugars can immediately give us a feeling of happiness.

As a result, you crave more sugar because of the immediate pleasure that it gives. Continue reading “Why You Should Reduce Your Sugar Consumption”

Coconut Oil: A Natural Beauty Solution

It wasn’t until I was getting an eye exam a few years back that I even thought about using coconut oil, and honestly I don’t remember how my optometrist and I even got on the subject.

But, I became really interested when he told me how excited he was about it.

He explained how frustrated he was about his eczema condition.  The creams that he had been prescribed never really worked well for him..

After suffering with this skin condition his whole life, he finally decided to look for a natural solution.

After researching natural remedies for eczema, he discovered that coconut oil was worth a try and began using it on a daily basis.

Well…. it cleared up his eczema.

He was so happy that he was finally relieved of this problem, that he wanted the whole world to know.

It was then that I decided to do a little research of my own.

What I discovered was that I never want to be without coconut oil again!!!

Literally, If I were on a deserted Island and could only have one beauty product, it would be coconut oil because of all the wonderful things that it does!!

Here are 10 ways in which you may want to add coconut oil to your beauty regimen.

  • Eye makeup remover

Dab a little coconut oil onto one of those cleansing cotton rounds.  Be sure not to tug to hard around the eye area and take your time so that you don’t cause any damage.  Gently rub back and forth and – voila!

  • Nail Growth

After a manicure, rub some coconut oil onto your cuticles.  This will help stimulate strong and healthy nail growth.

  • Massage Oil

You can use the coconut oil alone or add an essential oil such as lavender or peppermint to make it an aroma therapeutic massage. Continue reading “Coconut Oil: A Natural Beauty Solution”

Prevent Premature Wrinkles Now

Wrinkles…. once you’ve got em… you’ve got em.

Now, it may be true that there are products on the market that may help to reduce or somewhat reverse the appearance of wrinkles.

But, preventing wrinkles from creeping up on the skin before they should, will help with your appearance and skin health.

Exfoliate

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the skin so that the newer skin is revealed.  It usually involves gently scrubbing the skin in a circular motion as to cleanse and rejuvenate the skins surface.

Skin collects dirt, makeup, and oils that cause it to look dull and wrinkled.  But, exfoliating the skin can unclog pores, clear blackheads and make the skin look and feel more youthful.

Cleansing the skin this way should be done no more than twice a week and is very beneficial when followed with a good hydrating cream to help lock in moisture.

Drink Water

So… being that the human body is made up of more than 50% water, it makes a lot of sense that drinking an adequate amount of water on a daily basis will help to increase hydration and decrease wrinkles.  The amount of water needed really depends on activity, gender and overall health of the individual.

However, the key thing to remember is that water should be your go-to-drink throughout the day.  Alcoholic beverages and sugary drinks should be kept at a minimum.

Stay Moisturized

Keeping your skin properly moisturized on a consistent basis is very beneficial.  It helps the skin along by giving it protection and a smoother appearance.  Look for ingredients that help to contain moisture such as aloe and glycerin, so that the skin can remain moisturized longer.
